New to Canada? No worries! We are here to help!

A newcomer to Ontario who holds any type of driver’s license from another province or country must apply for an Ontario Driver’s License within 60 days of moving to the province.

  • You must visit a DriveTest Center and present acceptable ID at the time of your application.

  • You must meet medical requirements.

  • You must pay the applicable fees.

  • You must pass a vision test, a knowledge test, and a road test(s).

  • If you have previous driving experience outside of Ontario, that experience may be acknowledged through license exchange privileges or through foreign license experience credits. However, you are still required to pass all applicable tests to earn your Ontario Driver’s License.

  • Click here for more information about License Exchanges & Foreign License Applications.

In Ontario, you must be at least 16 years of age to drive legally. No matter what your age or driving experience, we highly recommend reading the relevant Driver’s Handbook and take training lessons from a local licensed driving school prior to driving on Ontario’s roads.
